Evolution of The Most Iconic Skyline: Chicago's New Skyscrapers
Birthplace of the Skyscraper
Not only is Chicago the Windy City, but it is also the Birthplace of the Skyscraper. For well over a century, Chicago has been at the forefront of urban architectural design. The world’s first skyscraper, topping the field at 10 stories high, was the Home Insurance Building erected in Chicago in 1885. And the tallest building in the world at the time of its construction was Chicago’s famous Sears tower. This trend continues today with Chicago’s luxury housing. As of June 2019, Chicago had 116 buildings over 500 feet tall and several more in the works.
Now, Chicago’s iconic skyline is about to receive another makeover. New architecture is embracing the vertical limits of the city while honoring its historic architectural prowess. The best part?
